Labplas TWIRL'EM® Write-On Sampling Bags

Labplas TWIRL'EM Write-On bags are clean, single-use sampling bags with a printed writing area, so the sample ID, date, location and sampler can be recorded right on the bag. The built-in wire closure seals them waterproof and airtight with a simple twirl and fold, and a tear-off perforated top keeps the opening clean until you sample.

This page covers eight Write-On bags in two closure styles: the standard closure (2 round wires) and the heavy sample "MixWire" closure (1 round + 1 flat wire) for denser samples. Sizes run from 3.5 × 7 in to 7 × 12 in. They're used in food and beverage QA/QC, wastewater and environmental field sampling, agriculture, research laboratories, and universities and colleges. TWIRL'EM bags are available in Canada from Cambridge Environmental Products with CAD pricing and Canadian purchasing support.

Ideal For

  • Field sampling programs where sample details must stay with the sample
  • Wastewater and environmental labs: water, sludge and soil sampling
  • Food and beverage QA/QC: raw material and finished product microbiology
  • Agriculture: soil, feed and tissue samples, including heavy samples
  • Research laboratories, universities and colleges

Why Choose TWIRL'EM Write-On Bags?

Clean, single-use bags

Labplas produces TWIRL'EM bags with dry heat during film extrusion (above 220 °C / 428 °F), which its data sheet rates at a sterility assurance level (SAL) of 10⁻³. Labplas also lists them as DNase-free, RNase-free and non-pyrogenic. If your procedure requires certified sterile bags, choose TWIRL'EM Clean Room.

Printed writing area for traceability

Record sample details directly on the bag. You don't need separate labels, which can fall off when bags get wet or cold, and there's less risk of mixing up samples.

Two closure strengths

The standard closure (2 round wires) suits most samples. The heavy sample "MixWire" closure (1 round + 1 flat wire) gives a stronger hold for denser or heavier samples such as soil, sludge, meat or feed.

Secure wire closure, no tools needed

Twirl the bag by the wire ends to wind the top closed, then fold the wires over to lock it. The sample is sealed waterproof and airtight for transport, without caps, clips or heat sealers. A tear-off perforated top keeps the opening clean until you sample.

Food-contact compliant film

The polyethylene-blend film meets FDA 21 CFR 177.1520 and EU Regulation No 10/2011 for food contact, according to Labplas. That matters when bags hold food samples or product destined for testing.

Long shelf life

Labplas lists a 5-year shelf life when stored dry at room temperature, so cases of 1,000 can be kept on hand without waste.

Which Bag Should I Choose?

  • Liquids, swabs and most food samples? Choose the Standard closure.
  • Soil, sludge, meat, feed or other dense samples? Choose the Heavy Sample (MixWire) closure, in 4.5 × 9, 5.5 × 9 or 7 × 12 in.
  • Sharp or bulky samples? Choose the 4 mil 7 × 12 in (EPR47012).
  • Size: 3.5 × 7 in for small samples; 4.5 × 15 in for long items or extra headspace; 5.5 × 9 in for general use; 7 × 12 in for larger samples.

Common Applications

Application How These Bags Help
Field water sampling Write the site, date and time on the bag; the closure seals waterproof for transport.
Soil and sludge sampling The heavy sample closure holds denser material securely.
Food sampling Food-contact compliant bags with traceable labelling; for certified sterile sampling, use the Clean Room bags.
Molecular work Labplas lists the bags as DNase-free and RNase-free.

Selection & Handling Notes

  • Don't overfill. Leave enough room at the top to twirl and fold the closure. Labplas lists a usable volume below the total volume. For example, the 5.5 × 9 in bag holds 930 mL in total but has a usable volume of 550 mL.
  • Write before filling where possible, so the writing area is dry and flat.
  • Temperature limits: Labplas doesn't publish freezing or heating limits on the data sheet we reviewed. Check with Cambridge before freezing, heating or autoclaving.
  • Single use: use each bag once. Don't reuse them.

Canadian Purchasing Support

Frequently Asked Questions

What are TWIRL'EM Write-On bags used for?

They're single-use sampling bags with a printed writing area for recording sample details, used in food, environmental, agricultural and research sampling.

What's the difference between the standard and heavy sample closure?

The standard closure uses 2 round wires and suits most samples. The heavy sample "MixWire" closure uses 1 round and 1 flat wire for a stronger hold on denser or heavier samples.

How do you close a TWIRL'EM bag?

Hold the wire ends, twirl the bag to wind the top closed, then fold the wire ends over to lock it. This gives a waterproof, airtight seal.

What's the difference between EPR-7012 and EPR47012?

Both are 7 × 12 in with the standard closure. EPR-7012 is 3 mil film; EPR47012 is heavier 4 mil film.

Are these bags certified sterile?

No. Labplas produces them with dry heat during film extrusion (SAL 10⁻³), but they are not irradiated and don't come with a sterility certificate. For certified sterile bags, choose TWIRL'EM Clean Room.

Are they suitable for food samples?

Yes. Labplas states the film meets FDA 21 CFR 177.1520 and EU Regulation No 10/2011 for food contact.

Are they suitable for wastewater testing?

Yes. Labplas lists water and sewage among its applications, and the write-on area helps keep field samples traceable.

How many bags are in a case?

Every code on this page comes in cases of 1,000.

Are TWIRL'EM bags available in Canada?

Yes. Labplas is a Canadian manufacturer, and Cambridge Environmental Products supplies TWIRL'EM bags across Canada with CAD pricing.
