Hygiena SystemSURE Plus SS3 ATP Luminometer

The Hygiena SystemSURE Plus SS3 is a portable ATP luminometer used to verify cleaning effectiveness on surfaces and in water samples. It provides results in approximately 15 seconds when used with compatible Hygiena ATP test devices, helping sanitation and QA/QC teams identify areas requiring additional cleaning.

Designed for routine hygiene monitoring, SystemSURE Plus features programmable pass, caution and fail limits, storage for 2,000 results, a backlit display and support for Hygiena SureTrend desktop software.

It is a practical choice for Canadian food processors, breweries, beverage manufacturers, dairy plants, sanitation contractors and other facilities that need consistent ATP cleaning verification without the added features of a touchscreen or cloud-based instrument.

Ideal Applications

  • Food processing sanitation and pre-operational cleaning checks
  • Brewery, winery and beverage production equipment
  • Dairy processing and cleaning-in-place (CIP) rinse-water monitoring
  • Food-contact surfaces, conveyors, fillers, mixers and production tables
  • Commercial kitchens and foodservice sanitation
  • Industrial production and QA/QC cleaning verification
  • Healthcare and institutional environmental cleaning programs
  • Facilities maintaining HACCP, GMP and sanitation verification procedures

Why Choose Hygiena SystemSURE Plus?

  • Results in 15 seconds: Quickly check cleaned surfaces or appropriate water samples before the next production step.
  • Objective ATP measurements: Displays results in Relative Light Units (RLU), reducing reliance on visual inspection alone.
  • Pass, caution and fail limits: Create limits suited to your facility's sampling locations and cleaning procedures.
  • 2,000-result memory: Store testing results for review and download.
  • Programmable testing: Supports up to 100 test plans, 200 user IDs and approximately 5,000 programmed test locations.
  • Portable design: Compact handheld instrument powered by two AA batteries.
  • Simple operation: Backlit LCD, keypad controls and quick-test mode.
  • Photodiode sensor: Solid-state light detection technology designed for dependable routine measurements.
  • Calibration self-check: Automatically checks instrument calibration during startup.
  • Data management: Supports Hygiena SureTrend desktop software for reviewing results and identifying sanitation trends.

How Does ATP Hygiene Testing Work?

ATP, or adenosine triphosphate, is found in living cells and biological material. After a surface or water sample is collected, the test device produces a light-generating reaction related to the ATP present.

The SystemSURE Plus luminometer measures this light and reports the result in RLU.

  1. Collect a sample: Use a compatible Hygiena UltraSnap surface swab or AquaSnap water testing device.
  2. Activate the test: Follow the instructions supplied with the selected Hygiena test device.
  3. Measure: Insert the activated device into the luminometer and begin the measurement.
  4. Review the result: The instrument displays an RLU reading in approximately 15 seconds.
  5. Take action: Compare the result with your facility's established limits. Reclean and retest locations when required.

SystemSURE Plus can help teams move from subjective visual inspection to a more consistent and documented cleaning verification process.

Important: ATP testing measures an indicator of biological residue. RLU results are not bacterial colony counts and do not identify specific microorganisms, pathogens or allergens. ATP monitoring supports sanitation verification but does not replace required microbiological or allergen-specific testing.

Compatible Hygiena ATP Swabs and Water Tests

SystemSURE Plus requires compatible Hygiena test devices. The instrument and consumable tests are separate components of the testing system.

Product What It Tests Best Use
UltraSnap US2020 Surface ATP Equipment, food-contact surfaces, tools and production areas
AquaSnap Total AQ-100X Total ATP in water CIP rinse water, process water and liquid cleaning verification
AquaSnap Free AQ-100FX Free dissolved ATP in water Water testing where the free ATP fraction is required

Each of these test products is available in 100-test packages. The correct format depends on whether your facility needs surface testing, water testing or both.

For water monitoring, AquaSnap Total measures free and microbial ATP together. AquaSnap Free measures ATP dissolved in the sample. The two formats can be used together when an estimate of the microbial ATP portion is needed.

Ordering Note: UltraSnap and AquaSnap test devices are purchased separately unless specifically included in a quoted package. Check the instrument package contents before ordering. Contact Cambridge if you need help selecting a suitable starting quantity.

SystemSURE Plus vs. EnSURE Touch

Hygiena offers both SystemSURE Plus and EnSURE Touch for ATP cleaning verification. Both are capable of rapid ATP testing, but they are designed for different levels of data management and operational requirements.

Feature SystemSURE Plus EnSURE Touch
ATP Measurement 15 seconds 10 seconds
Display Backlit LCD and keypad 5-inch touchscreen
Power Two AA batteries Rechargeable battery
Data Management SureTrend desktop software SureTrend Cloud integration
Connectivity Serial connection with appropriate computer adapter Wi-Fi and USB
Best Fit Routine ATP verification using a conventional handheld instrument More extensive monitoring with touchscreen operation and cloud reporting

Which Hygiena Luminometer Should You Choose?

Choose SystemSURE Plus if your facility primarily needs routine surface or water ATP testing, straightforward controls and conventional result storage.

Consider EnSURE Touch if your facility needs a touchscreen interface, Wi-Fi connectivity, centralized cloud reporting or a broader Hygiena testing program.

For new facilities, we recommend considering expected test volume, reporting requirements, computer compatibility and ongoing swab costs before selecting an instrument.

Data Management and Calibration Verification

SystemSURE Plus can store test results in the instrument and supports transferring data to Hygiena SureTrend desktop software for reviewing and documenting sanitation performance.

The instrument uses a serial interface. Computer connection may require the appropriate cable, USB adapter and drivers. Facilities using newer Windows computers or managed corporate IT systems should confirm software compatibility before ordering.

SystemSURE Plus performs an internal calibration self-check during startup. The optional Hygiena PCD4000 Calibration Control Kit provides an additional method of verifying instrument performance.

Hygiena also offers the CK25 ATP Positive Control Kit for checking ATP test device performance.

Important Compatibility Note: SystemSURE Plus uses conventional desktop data management rather than EnSURE Touch's cloud-based system. If your facility requires current software integration, centralized multi-site reporting or specific IT security requirements, confirm compatibility before purchasing.

Planning Your ATP Testing Program

Before purchasing a luminometer, it helps to identify how your facility will use it. A few practical considerations can make ongoing testing easier and prevent unnecessary consumable purchases.

  • Surface or water testing: Determine whether your team needs UltraSnap, AquaSnap Total, AquaSnap Free or a combination.
  • Testing frequency: Estimate the number of samples taken daily or weekly to plan your consumable requirements.
  • Testing locations: Identify equipment, contact surfaces, rinse-water points and other areas requiring monitoring.
  • Documentation: Confirm whether simple stored readings are sufficient or if your team requires centralized reports.
  • Calibration verification: Review your internal quality procedures to determine whether additional verification accessories are needed.
  • Consumable storage: Review Hygiena's storage and shelf-life instructions for each selected test device.

For repeat testing programs, Cambridge can help estimate ongoing UltraSnap or AquaSnap requirements and discuss purchasing options for Canadian facilities.
