The VEE GEE 47002 is a portable water activity (aw) meter for food quality control, product development and laboratory testing. It helps manufacturers measure available water in foods, ingredients, powders and other suitable samples to support quality control, formulation and shelf-life studies.
With ±0.01 aw accuracy, selectable 0.001 aw display resolution and a 6-minute Quick Mode, the 47002 offers flexible testing for Canadian food producers and QA/QC laboratories.
Food and beverage QA/QC, baked goods, confectionery, dried foods, spices, powdered ingredients, pet food, product development, cosmetics and laboratory research.
Included: Meter, capacitive sensor with sample cup, five additional sample cups with lids, five replacement sensor filters, USB cable and carrying case. Four AAA batteries and calibration salts are sold separately.

Quick Mode: Provides a predictive result after a fixed 6-minute cycle. Useful for faster routine checks once the method has been evaluated for your sample type.
Stability Mode: Measures until the sample reaches the selected stability conditions, typically in 5–30 minutes. Recommended when testing unfamiliar samples or establishing a testing method.
The manufacturer recommends starting with Stability Mode. If both modes are used, calibrate each according to its own procedure.
The VEE GEE 47002 supports 1-, 2- or 3-point calibration using suitable water activity standards. Select calibration points close to the range of your normal samples.
Available replacement components include sample cups, protective sensor filters, capacitive sensor assemblies and the optional electrical-resistance alcohol sensor.
The optional alcohol sensor has a range of 0.200–1.000 aw and published accuracy of ±0.02 aw.
Water activity is one factor in product stability. An aw result alone does not establish that a food is safe or shelf stable. Consider pH, formulation, processing, microbiological testing, packaging and storage requirements.
It measures how available water is within a sample. Unlike moisture content, water activity helps assess conditions that influence microbial growth and product stability.
The included capacitive sensor has a published accuracy of ±0.01 aw. Its selectable display resolution is 0.01 or 0.001 aw. Resolution should not be confused with measurement accuracy.
Quick Mode takes 6 minutes. Stability Mode typically takes approximately 5–30 minutes depending on the sample and measurement conditions.
Yes, with the appropriate sensor. VEE GEE recommends the separately sold electrical-resistance sensor for alcohol-containing samples.
Calibration salts are recommended for checking and adjusting instrument performance. They are sold separately and should be selected for your normal measurement range.
Yes. The meter stores up to 99 results and supports data transfer using the supplied USB cable and VEE GEE software for compatible Windows computers.
Yes. Water activity measurements can support shelf-life and formulation studies. Results must be considered alongside the other factors affecting food stability and safety.
