OHAUS Guardian™ 5000 Dry Synthesis Kits – e-G52HSRDA Hotplate Stirrer with Aluminum Flask Block

OHAUS Guardian 5000 Dry Synthesis Kits combine the e-G52HSRDA round-top hotplate stirrer with an anodized aluminum block sized for round-bottom flasks. They include a PT1000 temperature probe, probe holder and flask clamp. The block transfers heat from the 135 mm hotplate into the flask, so you can heat and stir reactions without an oil bath or heating mantle. There's no hot oil to spill, clean up or dispose of.

Three kits are available, sized for 250 mL (Kit 2A), 500 mL (Kit 2B) or 1000 mL (Kit 2C) flasks. All run on 120 V. They're used in chemistry and synthesis labs, pharmaceutical and materials research, and universities and colleges. Guardian 5000 synthesis kits are available in Canada from Cambridge Environmental Products with CAD pricing and Canadian purchasing support.

Ideal For

  • Organic and inorganic synthesis: heating and stirring reactions in round-bottom flasks
  • Labs replacing oil baths to reduce spill, fire and disposal risks
  • Reflux and long-run reactions using probe control and the built-in timer
  • Pharmaceutical, materials and academic research labs
  • Teaching labs in universities and colleges

Why Choose a Guardian 5000 Synthesis Kit?

Dry heating without an oil bath

The anodized aluminum block (6082 T651 alloy) conducts heat from the hotplate into the flask. There's no oil to heat up, spill or dispose of, and no water bath to top up. The anodized finish is chemical and solvent resistant.

Precise probe control

The kit includes a stainless steel PT1000 Class A probe. With the probe placed in the reaction, the hotplate controls to the sample temperature rather than the plate temperature, in 0.5 °C steps. OHAUS lists probe accuracy of ±0.2 °C plus the PT1000 Class A tolerance.

Strong, steady stirring

The e-G52HSRDA stirs from 50 to 1800 rpm with ±2% speed stability and handles up to 20 L of water. That's more than enough for a 1 L flask.

Built-in safety features

SafetyHeat™ uses two independent controls to monitor the electronics and shut off heating before overtemperature. Run Dry Protection stops heating and sounds an alarm if the probe isn't in the sample during probe-controlled heating. The hotplate also has a hot-top indicator, an audible alarm and an IP32-rated metal housing.

Timer and data output

A timer runs from 1 minute to 99 h 59 min for unattended runs. The built-in RS232 port lets you log data or control the unit remotely.

Available Kits

Choose the Kit by the largest round-bottom flask you'll use. Each kit includes the hotplate stirrer, one base block, the PT1000 probe, the probe holder and a flask clamp.

Selection & Handling Notes

  • Block limit is 300 °C. The hotplate can reach 360 °C, but the aluminum blocks are rated to 300 °C. Set the plate safety limit accordingly.
  • Use the probe for reaction temperature. Without the probe, the hotplate controls the plate, not the flask, and the flask will run cooler than the setpoint.
  • Blocks and handles get hot. Let the block cool before handling, or use heat-resistant gloves. Watch for the hot-top indicator.
  • Match the flask to the block. Use a flask that sits fully in the recess for good heat transfer, or use an insert for smaller flasks.
  • 120 V models. These kits are for 100–120 V North American power.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a dry synthesis kit?

It's a hotplate stirrer paired with a solid aluminum block that holds a round-bottom flask. The block heats the flask directly, replacing an oil bath or heating mantle.

What's the difference between Kit 2A, 2B and 2C?

Only the base block size: 2A fits a 250 mL flask, 2B a 500 mL flask and 2C a 1000 mL flask. The hotplate, probe, probe holder and flask clamp are the same.

Can I use smaller flasks?

Yes, with insert blocks that fit inside the base block, down to 25 mL. Inserts are sold separately. Contact Cambridge for options and pricing.

What's the maximum temperature?

The hotplate goes up to 360 °C, but the aluminum blocks are rated to 300 °C working temperature.

Is a temperature probe included?

Yes. Each kit includes a stainless steel PT1000 Class A probe (−40 °C to 400 °C) and a probe holder.

Can I use the hotplate on its own?

Yes. Remove the block and use the e-G52HSRDA as a standard 135 mm round-top hotplate stirrer.

Are these kits available in Canada?

Yes. Cambridge Environmental Products supplies OHAUS Guardian 5000 synthesis kits across Canada with CAD pricing.
