Consumables & Accessories

The Burkle MiniSampler PE is a complete, hand-operated vacuum sampling system designed for general liquid sampling from barrels, canisters, tanks and other containers. Its compact design and narrow 8 mm suction hose make it suitable for reaching deep or restricted sampling points.

The MiniSampler uses a manual vacuum pump to draw liquid through a polyethylene (PE) suction hose directly into a sample bottle attached to the pump. The sample comes into contact primarily with the PE hose and sample bottle, helping reduce the risk of cross-contamination between samples. The disposable suction hose can be replaced when required, including between individual samples.

This complete set includes the vacuum pump, ten 100 mL PE sample bottles with closures, 10 m of PE suction hose, stainless steel hose weight, hose cutter, 20 Seal-it bottle seals and a transport case.

How the MiniSampler PE Works

The MiniSampler uses a manual pump to create a vacuum, drawing liquid through the suction hose and into the sample bottle connected to the pump. The collected sample can then be removed, closed and labelled.

  1. Attach the sample bottle: Screw a compatible sample bottle onto the pump by hand.
  2. Install the suction hose: Feed the hose through the clamping screw and approximately 1 cm into the sample bottle, then tighten the screw by hand.
  3. Position the hose: Place the free end of the hose into the liquid at the desired sampling depth. Ensure the hose is not kinked.
  4. Fit the hose weight: Where appropriate, attach and secure the stainless steel hose weight to improve hose stability.
  5. Collect the sample: Operate the pump handle to draw liquid into the sample bottle.
  6. Close the sample: Carefully remove the filled bottle and secure its closure.

Applications

The MiniSampler PE is intended for general sampling of non-aggressive, non-flammable liquids. Its compact suction hose and portable case make it suitable for sampling from:

  • Drums and barrels
  • Canisters and containers
  • Storage and process tanks
  • Deep or narrow sampling points
  • Laboratory and industrial liquid sampling locations

Safety and Operating Limitations

Important safety information:
  • Not suitable for highly flammable or explosive liquids.
  • Not suitable for aggressive acids or alkalis; vapours may damage the pump.
  • The sampler is made from non-conductive materials.
  • Suitable for non-aggressive, non-flammable liquids within the 0 to 60°C temperature range.
  • Maximum suction depth is 5 m.
  • Designed for sampling only, not continuous operation.
  • Do not overfill the sample bottle or tilt, lay down or store the sampler with a filled bottle attached.
  • Not suitable for dishwasher cleaning.

Use only with compatible sample bottles and within the chemical resistance limits of the materials. Follow the manufacturer's instruction manual, use appropriate protective equipment and work in a suitably ventilated area when sampling substances that may release vapours.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Bürkle MiniSampler PE used for?

The MiniSampler PE is a manual vacuum sampler designed to collect liquid samples from drums, tanks, canisters and other containers. It is useful for routine sampling in environmental, industrial, food production and research laboratories where the materials are chemically compatible.

What is included with the complete MiniSampler PE kit?

Bürkle model 5305-0100 includes a manual vacuum pump, ten 100 mL PE sample bottles, 10 metres of PE suction tubing (6 × 8 mm), a hose cutter, stainless steel hose weight, 20 Seal-it bottle seals and a transport case.

What is the maximum sampling depth?

The manufacturer specifies a maximum suction height of 5 metres, depending on the liquid being sampled. The flexible tubing has an outside diameter of 8 mm, allowing it to reach relatively narrow container openings.

What is the difference between MiniSampler PE and PTFE?

The MiniSampler PE is designed for general liquid sampling and includes PE tubing and collection bottles. The MiniSampler PTFE is intended for applications requiring higher sample purity and includes PTFE tubing and a PFA sample bottle. Choose based on chemical compatibility and the sampling method.

Can the MiniSampler PE be used with acids, solvents or chemicals?

Not with every chemical. Bürkle advises against aggressive acids because vapours can damage the pump. The complete sampler's chemical compatibility must be checked before use, including the tubing, bottle, pump and fittings. Do not assume suitability for highly flammable or explosive liquids.

How does the MiniSampler help reduce cross-contamination?

The liquid sample travels through the suction tubing directly into the collection bottle rather than passing through the pump. The tubing can be replaced between samples, helping reduce carryover when appropriate sampling procedures are followed.

Are replacement bottles and tubing available?

Yes. Bürkle offers replacement PE suction tubing, sample bottles and MiniSampler components. Contact Cambridge Environmental with the required part number and quantity to confirm Canadian pricing and availability.

Can Canadian laboratories use the MiniSampler PE for environmental sampling?

Yes, for appropriate liquid samples. Suitability depends on sample chemistry, required depth and the laboratory's testing procedures. If samples are being collected for regulatory reporting, confirm that the sampling equipment and method meet the applicable requirements.
