MTC Bio Gel Crusher Spin Column
MTC Bio's Gel Crusher™ Spin Columns streamline gel fragmentation by replacing time-consuming, labor-intensive gel breaker methods such as crush-and-soak. Designed with 600 µm filtration pores, these columns efficiently fragment gel slices when centrifuged, producing consistent, uniform pieces ideal for downstream processing.
Compatible with standard 2 mL microcentrifuge tubes, the Gel Crusher™ allows gel slices (typically excised with a razor blade or gel extractor) to be quickly processed in a benchtop microcentrifuge. A brief 5-minute spin at maximum speed (≈15,000 × g) forces the gel through the filtration pores, creating a fine, homogeneous slurry.
The resulting fragments are small enough to be easily aspirated and dispensed using wide-bore pipette tips, enabling faster and more efficient elution, incubation, filtration, or labeling steps. By producing uniform gel fragments, the Gel Crusher™ helps improve DNA recovery and overall workflow efficiency across a range of molecular biology applications.
