The OHAUS MB32 Moisture Analyzer is designed for fast, routine moisture-content testing in laboratories and QA/QC environments that need a practical alternative to lengthy oven-drying procedures.
Combining a 90 g precision balance with 0.001 g readability and an integrated carbon-fibre infrared heating system, the MB32 continuously measures sample weight as moisture is driven off. At the end of the drying cycle, results can be displayed as % moisture, % solids, % regain, weight, time, and temperature.
With a 40°C to 180°C heating range, two drying profiles, automatic and timed shutoff options, two stored methods, and RS232/USB communication, the MB32 is a strong fit for Canadian laboratories performing routine moisture testing without requiring the expanded method management and data-storage features of the MB62 or MB92.
The MB32 uses a thermogravimetric moisture-analysis method. First, the instrument records the initial weight of the sample. The integrated carbon-fibre heater then heats the sample while the precision balance continuously measures the reduction in mass as volatile moisture is removed.
The instrument uses the change between the initial and final sample weights to calculate the moisture result. Depending on the selected result mode, the MB32 can report moisture content, dry content / solids, moisture regain, or sample weight.
This allows many routine moisture checks to be completed considerably faster than conventional drying-oven workflows while combining the heating and weighing steps in one instrument.
A moisture analyzer does not automatically reproduce the result of every reference oven method. Temperature, sample size, sample preparation, sample distribution, drying profile, and shutoff criterion should be developed and validated against your laboratory's reference method or acceptance criteria where required.

Standard mode is the general-purpose heating profile and is a good starting point for many routine samples where controlled, consistent heating is preferred.
Fast mode is intended to bring suitable samples toward the target drying conditions more aggressively to reduce analysis time. It should be used only where the sample can tolerate the heating behaviour without burning, decomposing, forming a surface crust, or producing a biased result.
Moisture-analysis repeatability depends heavily on sample preparation. Whenever possible, use a representative sample and distribute it in a thin, even layer across the sample pan. Large piles or uneven distribution can slow moisture release and leave portions of the sample incompletely dried.
OHAUS specifically notes that glass-fibre pads can be useful with liquids, pastes, fat-containing materials, melting samples, skin-forming products, and some temperature-sensitive samples. The pad increases the effective sample area and can improve drying behaviour.
Samples containing high levels of sugar may require moderate temperatures and thin sample layers to reduce surface caramelization.
If you are replacing an oven method, start by matching the sample preparation, sample mass, drying temperature, and endpoint criteria as closely as practical. Then compare multiple samples against your established reference method before adopting the MB32 result for routine release or process-control decisions.
