    Hygiena Testing FAQs

Quick answers on choosing ATP, protein residue and water tests.

What is Hygiena ATP testing used for?

Hygiena ATP testing helps food and beverage facilities verify cleaning effectiveness on production equipment, work surfaces, and compatible water samples. Results provide rapid feedback to sanitation and QA/QC teams so they can identify areas requiring further cleaning or investigation.

What is the difference between UltraSnap and SuperSnap?

UltraSnap (US2020) is designed for routine surface ATP monitoring after cleaning. SuperSnap (SUS3000) is a higher-sensitivity ATP test suited to applications requiring detection of lower ATP levels, including high-risk cleaning verification. Neither test identifies specific allergens or pathogens.

What is the difference between AquaSnap Total and AquaSnap Free?

AquaSnap Total (AQ-100X) measures total ATP in a water sample, including free and microbial ATP. AquaSnap Free (AQ-100FX) measures dissolved, free ATP. Using both tests can help estimate the microbial ATP portion of a water sample. Both are used in water and rinse-water monitoring programs.

Do Hygiena ATP swabs require a luminometer?

Yes. UltraSnap, SuperSnap, and AquaSnap ATP tests require a compatible Hygiena luminometer, such as the EnSURE Touch. Visual residue tests such as PRO-Clean and AllerSnap use colour-change reactions and do not require a luminometer.

What is the difference between ATP and protein residue testing?

ATP testing measures a biological residue indicator through a luminometer and reports results in Relative Light Units (RLU). Protein residue tests such as PRO-Clean and AllerSnap use a visual reaction to detect remaining protein. Neither method replaces allergen-specific or microbiological testing where those tests are required.

Can Hygiena products be used in breweries and dairy plants?

Yes. Hygiena hygiene monitoring products are used in food and beverage facilities, including breweries, dairies, wineries, and food processing plants. Depending on the test selected, applications include equipment sanitation checks, production surface monitoring, CIP rinse-water testing, and dairy pasteurization verification.

Does the EnSURE Touch store and report ATP test results?

Yes. The Hygiena EnSURE Touch supports test plans, location-based monitoring, results management, and reporting through its compatible software system. It is suitable for facilities that need to document sanitation trends and manage routine testing across production areas.

Can Cambridge help select a Hygiena ATP testing system?

Yes. Cambridge Environmental can help Canadian facilities compare Hygiena luminometers, surface ATP swabs, water ATP tests, protein residue tests, and related accessories based on the testing application, expected test volume, reporting requirements, and ongoing consumable costs.
