VACUUBRAND MZ 1C Oil-Free Chemistry Vacuum Pump
The VACUUBRAND MZ 1C is a compact, two-stage chemistry diaphragm vacuum pump for laboratory applications involving compatible chemical gases and vapours. It provides an ultimate vacuum of 12 mbar absolute (9 Torr) with a maximum pumping speed of 0.5 cfm at 60 Hz.
With oil-free operation, chemically resistant wetted components and an integrated gas ballast valve, the MZ 1C is suited to smaller laboratory evaporation and research applications where space is limited and chemical resistance is important.
Manufacturer part number: 20724103 | Electrical: 120 V / 60 Hz | Certification: NRTL C/US

The maximum pumping speed is measured under specified conditions and does not represent the pumping speed at every working pressure. Check the manufacturer's performance curve when sizing the pump for continuous operation.
What Does the Gas Ballast Do?
The gas ballast valve helps the pump handle condensable vapours by introducing gas during compression, reducing the likelihood of condensation inside the pump.
With the gas ballast open, the published ultimate vacuum is 20 mbar instead of 12 mbar absolute.
Gas ballast does not eliminate the need for appropriate exhaust handling, solvent recovery or protection against liquid entering the pump.

Confirm accessory compatibility and connection requirements before ordering. Additional accessories are not included unless specifically listed in a quotation.
MZ 1C vs. ME 1C vs. MZ 2C NT
These VACUUBRAND chemistry diaphragm pumps are designed for different vacuum requirements and pumping capacities.
| Model | Ultimate Vacuum | Max. Speed at 60 Hz |
|---|---|---|
| ME 1C | 100 mbar | 0.5 cfm |
| MZ 1C | 12 mbar | 0.5 cfm |
| MZ 2C NT | 7 mbar | 1.4 cfm |
Choose ME 1C when a single-stage chemistry pump provides sufficient vacuum.
Choose MZ 1C when you need deeper vacuum but have a relatively small gas load and limited bench space.
Consider MZ 2C NT when you need both deeper vacuum and more pumping capacity.
For evaporation and continuous processes, select the pump using the required operating pressure and the manufacturer's pumping curve, not just the ultimate vacuum specification.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the VACUUBRAND MZ 1C oil-free?
Yes. It is an oil-free diaphragm pump and does not require vacuum pump oil changes.
Can the MZ 1C be used for rotary evaporation?
Yes, for suitable small-scale applications where the pumping speed, working pressure and chemical compatibility meet the process requirements. Larger systems or heavy vapour loads may require a higher-capacity pump.
Can the MZ 1C handle solvent vapours?
The pump is designed for compatible chemical gases and vapours. Its chemically resistant construction and gas ballast support this use, but individual chemicals, concentrations and operating conditions must be checked before purchasing.
What vacuum can the pump achieve?
The published ultimate vacuum is 12 mbar absolute (9 Torr), or 20 mbar absolute with gas ballast. Actual working pressure depends on the gas load and system conditions.
Is the MZ 1C suitable for continuous operation?
VACUUBRAND designs the pump for continuous pumping of compatible gases and vapours. Confirm that its pumping capacity, working pressure and vapour handling are suitable for the application.
Does the pump include adjustable vacuum control?
The standard MZ 1C does not include an integrated vacuum controller or regulator with gauge. A compatible manual vacuum regulator is available separately.
Does the MZ 1C have Canadian electrical certification?
Manufacturer part number 20724103 is listed with NRTL C/US certification for its North American electrical configuration. Confirm the supplied unit and nameplate requirements when ordering.
What maintenance does the MZ 1C require?
There are no oil changes. Diaphragms and valves are wear components that may eventually require replacement. VACUUBRAND offers service kit 20696876 for the MZ 1C.
