VACUUBRAND ME 2 NT Oil-Free Diaphragm Vacuum Pump
The VACUUBRAND ME 2 NT is a compact, oil-free laboratory vacuum pump for filtration, gas transfer and other suitable non-corrosive applications. Its single-stage diaphragm design provides continuous vacuum operation without the oil changes required by rotary vane pumps.
With an ultimate vacuum of 70 mbar absolute (52 Torr) and a maximum pumping speed of 1.4 cfm at 60 Hz, the ME 2 NT is suitable for Canadian laboratories needing a reliable vacuum source for appropriate low-vacuum applications.

Maximum pumping speed is not the same as pumping speed at a particular operating vacuum. Check the manufacturer's performance curve when sizing a pump for a continuous gas load.
What Is Included and Which Accessories Are Available?
Manufacturer-supplied equipment: Assembled ME 2 NT pump, silencer, hose nozzle and operating manual.
Depending on the application, additional components may be required:
- Vacuum tubing (20686061): Transparent DN 8 mm tubing for compatible connections.
- Vacuum regulator valve (20696840): Manual vacuum adjustment with pressure indication.
- Diaphragm and valve service kit (20696877): Replacement components for routine pump maintenance.
- Moisture protection: An appropriate trap or separator may be needed where condensation or liquid carryover is possible.
Accessories should be selected for the actual system configuration. Confirm tubing, fittings and any required moisture protection before ordering.
ME 2 NT vs. Chemistry-Resistant or Deeper-Vacuum Pumps
Choose the ME 2 NT for compatible non-corrosive gases where the pump's working pressure and pumping speed are suitable.
Consider the VACUUBRAND ME 2C NT when chemical or solvent vapour resistance is needed. Its chemistry-resistant construction is intended for more demanding chemical applications, subject to material compatibility.
Consider a multistage pump when your application requires a lower ultimate pressure than 70 mbar. The VACUUBRAND diaphragm pump range includes alternatives for different vacuum requirements.
Contact Cambridge with your required pressure, gas flow, vapour composition and operating schedule if you are unsure which model is suitable.
Selecting a Pump for Continuous Vacuum Applications
For continuous operation, the most important questions are:
- What absolute pressure must the system maintain?
- How much gas must be removed at that pressure?
- Will the incoming gas contain water vapour, solvent vapour or corrosive components?
- Could condensation or liquid enter the pump?
- Is the pump operating continuously or intermittently?
The ME 2 NT has a published ultimate vacuum of 70 mbar absolute. That figure does not establish how much gas it can remove while maintaining 120 mbar, 200 mbar or another operating pressure.
For membrane contactors, water de-aeration systems and similar continuous applications, review the pumping curve at the required operating pressure and confirm the expected gas and moisture loads with the manufacturer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the VACUUBRAND ME 2 NT an oil-free pump?
Yes. It uses dry diaphragm pump technology and does not require vacuum pump oil.
Can the ME 2 NT run continuously?
The manufacturer describes this model as suitable for continuous pumping of compatible gases. Actual suitability depends on the operating pressure, gas load, vapour conditions and installation requirements.
Can I use the ME 2 NT for laboratory vacuum filtration?
Yes, for suitable filtration systems. Confirm the required vacuum level, pumping capacity and protection against accidental liquid carryover before use.
Is the pump suitable for organic solvents?
The ME 2 NT is not designed as a chemistry-resistant pump. For solvent or corrosive vapours, consider a compatible VACUUBRAND chemistry diaphragm pump.
Can it maintain 120 mbar absolute?
The published ultimate vacuum is 70 mbar absolute, but that does not confirm sufficient pumping capacity at 120 mbar under a continuous gas load. Review the manufacturer's pumping curve and have the full application checked before purchasing.
Does the ME 2 NT have Canadian electrical certification?
The manufacturer identifies part number 20730003 as an NRTL C/US configuration suitable for 120 V / 60 Hz operation. Confirm the supplied unit and nameplate requirements when ordering for your facility.
Does the pump need a moisture trap?
A trap or separator may be appropriate when water vapour, condensation or liquid carryover could occur. The required protection depends on the application. Contact Cambridge to review the system configuration.
What maintenance does the ME 2 NT require?
There are no oil changes. However, diaphragms and valves are wear components and may eventually need replacement. Follow the manufacturer maintenance instructions and inspect the pump for leaks or changes in performance.
