Labplas Filtra Bag Sterile Filter Blender Bags
Labplas Filtra Bag blender bags have a full-page filter membrane that divides the bag into two compartments. During homogenizing (stomaching), liquid and bacteria pass through the filter while food particles and other solids stay on the sample side. You can then pipette a clean aliquot from the filtrate side without blocking the pipette tip. The bags are sterile, single-use and have a tough PET outer layer that resists punctures from bones, shells and other sharp material in the blender. You can choose bags with or without a MixWire closure for sealing the bag after blending.
This page covers ten Filtra Bags in three styles. MixWire closure bags (1 round + 1 flat wire) come in 3.8 × 8, 6 × 9, 7.5 × 12, 10 × 15 and 15 × 20 in. Tear-off strip bags without a closure come in 6 × 9, 7.5 × 12, 10 × 15 and 15 × 20 in. There is also an open-top 7.5 × 12 in bag. They're used in food and beverage microbiology, dairy, meat and produce testing, and research laboratories. Labplas Filtra Bags are available in Canada from Cambridge Environmental Products with CAD pricing and Canadian purchasing support.
Ideal For
- Food microbiology labs: preparing initial dilutions of solid and semi-solid samples in a paddle blender (stomacher)
- Meat, poultry, seafood, dairy and produce testing, including samples with bones, shells or fibrous material
- Labs that pipette aliquots directly from the bag and want fewer blocked tips
- Food and beverage QA/QC and contract testing laboratories
- Research laboratories, universities and colleges
Why Choose Labplas Filtra Bags?
Full-page filter for clean aliquots
The filter membrane runs the full length and width of the bag, with about 1,840 holes per square inch and a pore size of about 330 µm. Solids stay on the sample side and liquid and bacteria pass to the filtrate side, so you can pipette without debris blocking the tip or carrying over into your plates or broth.
Puncture-resistant PET outer layer
The bag wall is a laminate with a polyethylene inner layer and a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) outer layer, 4 mil (101.6 µm) thick. The PET adds strength, so the paddles are much less likely to drive a bone fragment or shell through the bag wall and cause a leak in the blender.
Optional MixWire closure
EFT bags have a built-in heavy sample closure with one round and one flat wire. After blending, twirl the bag and fold the wires over to seal it for incubation, storage or transport, with no clips or sealers needed. The flat wire gives a firmer hold than standard round wires on heavier samples.
Sterilized by irradiation
Labplas sterilizes Filtra Bags by irradiation, with a sterility assurance level (SAL) of 10⁻³ established according to ISO 11137. The bags are also listed as DNase-free, RNase-free and non-pyrogenic (endotoxin limit 2.15 EU/device).
Food-contact compliant
Labplas states the bag materials meet FDA 21 CFR 177.1520 and EU Regulation No 10/2011 for food contact. Labplas also notes the bags can be used as part of a CFIA Preventive Control Plan (PCP) and HACCP program. That is not a CFIA approval of the product itself.
5-year shelf life
Labplas lists a 5-year lifespan when stored in a dry place at room temperature.
Available Bags
Choose the Closure style first, then the Size. The homogenizer volume is the most you should load (sample plus diluent) without risk of overflow during blending, so choose a bag whose homogenizer volume covers your sample and diluent together.

Which Bag Should I Choose?
- Match the bag to your blender. Check your blender's recommended bag size and working volume. If you're unsure, contact Cambridge with the make and model.
- 3.8 × 8 in (EFT-3780A): very small samples, up to 120 mL, for small-format blenders.
- 6 × 9 in: smaller samples, up to 360 mL of sample plus diluent.
- 7.5 × 12 in: the common size for a 25 g sample plus 225 mL of diluent (a 1:10 dilution), with room to spare.
- 10 × 15 in: larger composite samples, up to 2,000 mL.
- 15 × 20 in: large samples, such as 375 g composites, up to 6,100 mL.
Which closure style?
- MixWire (EFT codes): choose this if the bag is incubated, stored or transported after blending. Twirl and fold the wires to seal it. Both MixWire and tear-off strip bags open along a perforated line, so the inside stays protected until use.
- Tear-off strip (SCT codes): no closure. Choose this if you blend and pipette straight away, or seal bags with your own clips or sealer.
- Open top (SCTO7012A): no strip to remove and no closure, with a slightly larger capacity than the tear-off 7.5 × 12 in bag. Choose this for the fastest loading when bags are used immediately.
Common Applications
| Application | How Filtra Bags Help |

How to Use
- Tear off the top along the perforated line (EFT and SCT codes), or open the top (SCTO7012A).
- Place the sample on the printed (logo) side of the filter.
- Add the diluent your method specifies. Keep the total within the bag's homogenizer volume.
- Hold the top closed (fold it, or use the bag clamp on your blender) and homogenize in your paddle blender for the time your method requires.
- Pipette the aliquot from the clear (filtrate) side of the filter.
- For MixWire bags, twirl the bag and fold the wires over to seal it if it will be incubated, stored or transported.
Sample size, diluent, blending time and incubation conditions come from your lab method. Follow your own procedure.
Selection & Handling Notes
- Don't overfill. Stay within the homogenizer volume for your bag size. Overfilled bags can leak or burst in the blender.
- Sample on the printed side. Loading the sample on the clear side puts solids where you pipette.
- Sealing: only the EFT codes have a wire closure. Seal SCT and SCTO bags with your own clips or sealer for incubation or transport.
- Temperature: Labplas lists −70 °C to 80 °C. Don't autoclave the bags.
- Single use: use each bag once. Don't reuse them.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Filtra Bag used for?
It's a sterile blender bag with a built-in filter, used to homogenize food and other solid samples and then pipette a particle-free aliquot for microbiological testing.
What does the filter do?
The full-page membrane, about 330 µm pores, lets liquid and bacteria through but keeps solids on the sample side, so pipette tips don't block.
Which side does the sample go on?
Put the sample on the printed (logo) side, and pipette from the clear side.
Are Filtra Bags sterile?
Yes. Labplas sterilizes them by irradiation, with a sterility assurance level of 10⁻³ established according to ISO 11137.
What's the difference between SCT-7012A and SCTO7012A?
Both are 7.5 × 12 in. SCT-7012A has a tear-off protection strip that keeps the bag sealed until use. SCTO7012A is open-top with no strip, and holds slightly more (960 mL homogenizer volume vs 870 mL).
Which bags have a closure?
The EFT codes have a MixWire closure (1 round + 1 flat wire): twirl and fold to seal. The SCT and SCTO codes have no closure. Seal them with clips or a sealer if needed.
What does MixWire mean?
It's Labplas's heavy sample closure: one round wire and one flat wire. The flat wire holds the fold more firmly than two round wires, which helps with heavier samples.
Will they fit my blender?
Labplas says Filtra Bags suit all homogenizer types. Match the bag size to your blender's chamber and stay within the homogenizer volume. Contact Cambridge with your blender model if you're unsure.
Are other sizes available?
Labplas also makes 15 × 15 in Filtra Bags (EFT-1515A, SCT-1515A) and a 7.5 × 15 in MixWire bag (EFT-7015A). They aren't on this page, so contact Cambridge for pricing and availability.
Are Filtra Bags available in Canada?
Yes. Labplas is a Canadian manufacturer, and Cambridge Environmental Products supplies Filtra Bags across Canada with CAD pricing.
