Hygiena CalCheck™ LED Calibration Verification Device
Hygiena CalCheck is a reusable LED device for checking that your Hygiena luminometer is reading correctly. Insert it into the luminometer like a test swab and run a negative check (no light) and a positive check (a controlled green LED flash). If both readings fall within the expected ranges, the instrument is working within specification. It takes about a minute and gives your ATP program documented proof that the luminometer can be trusted.
CalCheck is powered by a replaceable coin battery and can be used repeatedly, at whatever interval your quality procedures set, such as weekly or monthly. On the EnSURE Touch, results are saved automatically and sync to SureTrend. The Hygiena CalCheck is available in Canada from Cambridge Environmental Products with CAD pricing and Canadian purchasing support.
Ideal For
- Food and beverage plants running ATP cleaning verification programs
- Routine instrument checks (e.g. weekly or monthly) required by your quality system
- Audit records showing the luminometer was verified
- Troubleshooting when ATP results look unexpected
Why Choose CalCheck?
Verifies the luminometer in about a minute
A negative check confirms there's no light leak or background error, and a positive check confirms the sensor reads a known light source correctly. You don't need to send the instrument away or use reagents.
Reusable
CalCheck uses an LED rather than chemicals, so there are no consumables to buy for each check. Only the coin battery needs replacing.
Built-in status light
The power button glows green when CalCheck is ready to read, and red, or not at all, when it needs a rest or a new battery.
Automatic records on EnSURE Touch
The EnSURE Touch has a calibration app that guides you through the internal LED, negative and positive checks. It saves the results and syncs them to SureTrend when the instrument is on Wi-Fi.
How to Use
EnSURE Touch
- Turn on the instrument and open the Calibration app.
- Follow the prompts for the internal LED test and the negative test (empty chamber).
- Press the CalCheck power button. It glows green. Insert it for the positive test.
- Results are saved automatically.
SystemSURE Plus
- On first use, record your initial negative and positive readings as a reference.
- Negative test: insert CalCheck without pressing the button, close the lid and press OK.
- Positive test: press the CalCheck button, close the lid and press OK within 20 seconds.
- Compare the results with the pass criteria below.
Steps are from the Hygiena CalCheck instructions. Wait 2 minutes between positive readings.
Pass Criteria
| Test | EnSURE Touch | SystemSURE Plus |
|---|---|---|
| Internal LED | Above 500 RLU | Not applicable |
| Negative | 0–4 RLU | 0–4 RLU |
| Positive | 255–345 RLU | 40–80 RLU, or within ±20% of your initial reading |
Per the Hygiena CalCheck instructions. If results are out of range, clean the CalCheck rod with alcohol on a lint-free cloth and clean the luminometer read chamber, then repeat. Contact Hygiena support if the problem continues.

Selection & Handling Notes
- Check your luminometer model. Hygiena lists CalCheck as compatible with Hygiena luminometers, and the instructions cover the EnSURE Touch and SystemSURE Plus. Contact Cambridge to confirm fit with other models.
- Don't press the button in storage. It drains the battery. Repeated positive readings can also temporarily drain it, so wait 2 minutes between them.
- Use the correct battery. Replace only with a CR1025 3 V coin battery. Hygiena warns of a risk of explosion with the wrong type.
- Don't twist or bend the device, especially the black battery housing.
- Acclimate before use. After exposure to extreme temperatures, let CalCheck sit at 10–25 °C for 30 minutes.
- Expiry: check the label for an expiry date and replace the device as needed.
