The sample is placed onto a glass fiber filter in the drying chamber. Microwaves are emitted from the waveguide at the bottom of the chamber, distributing heat evenly over the surface of the filter to dry the sample and thus obtain the moisture content based on the mass loss observed. A suitable drying program is picked based on the mass and chemical components of the sample. Typical drying time ranges from 1 to 10 minutes, whereas traditional halogen moisture analysis requires 5 to 40 minutes.
PMV 50.5Y features a temperature sensor, presenting microwave power as a percentage on the indicator to reliably avoid boiling during the drying process.
