CHEMetrics K-1420 Ammonia CHEMets® Test Kit

The CHEMetrics K-1420 Ammonia CHEMets® Kit is a visual colorimetric test kit for measuring ammonia in water samples. It covers two ranges, 0-4 ppm and 0-80 ppm, making it useful for wastewater, stormwater, aquaculture, environmental monitoring, and industrial water applications where ammonia concentrations may be higher than low-level drinking water ranges.

This kit uses the Hydroxybenzyl Alcohol, or HBA, method. Free ammonia reacts with hypochlorite to form monochloramine, which then reacts with HBA in the presence of sodium nitroferricyanide to form a green-coloured complex. Results are expressed as ppm, or mg/L, ammonia-nitrogen as NH3-N.
